Chicken & sweet potato waffles

Today I am sharing something amazing with you guys that I am really excited about. Chicken & sweet potato waffles!! The special thing about this post is that thanks to a great collaboration with @sageapplianceseu I prepared the chicken in the Combi Wave 3 in 1 which includes an airfryer function. This made the chicken extra crispy and golden brown without deep frying.

The savory sweet potato waffles are soft and full of flavor. The maple syrup that I pour over the chicken and waffles is just mouthwatering, don’t you think?

I also share a cooking video along with the recipe.

After being able to use this beautiful wave, I will share a review.

The Combi Wave 3 in 1 is an airfryer, convection oven and microwave in one that simply saves a lot of space in the kitchen. For example you can make perfect crispy chicken with the airfryer function; bake delicious banana bread with the convection oven function, melt the butter with the smart ‘melt butter’ one-touch preset or heat up your food with the inverter microwave function. The Smart algorithms bring the heat to the right place at the right time for the perfect preparation environment and results thanks to Sage´s Element IQ system. Another big plus is that the device is very quiet! I can’t wait to try out other dishes with this beauty.

INGREDIENTS FOR THE CHICKEN:

 6 chicken thighs

 600ml buttermilk, divided

 2 large eggs

 180g all-purpose flour

 2 tsp cajun seasoning

 1 tsp smoked paprika

 2 Paprika powder

2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

 2 tsp oregano

 1 tsp garlic powder

 1 tsp thyme

 1 tsp cayenne pepper

 1 tsp salt

 Oil spray

FOR THE SWEET POTATO WAFFLES:

250 gram sweet potato (peeled and diced)

200 ml of milk (optional buttermilk/almondmilk)

 15 gram dried yeast/instant yeast

 1 Tsp baking powder

 Pinch of salt (optional)

 200 gram self-raising flour

 4 large eggs

 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

75g butter melted (or coconut oil)

How to prepare Chicken in the airfryer:

You can start by rinsing the chicken and patting them dry.

Then cover all the pieces with 300 ml (1/2) of buttermilk and soak in the refrigerator for at least 8-24 hours. Take the chicken out of the refrigerator when you are ready preparing this dish. Pour away the buttermilk and put the chicken on a platter to reach room temperature.

Use some of the seasoning for the breading and some for flavoring the chicken.

season the chicken with 1/2 of all the herbs and rub in well.

Now you can prepare the breading with the remaining seasonings. Mix the flour, eggs and all seasonings in a bowl and pour in the remaining 1/2 cup buttermilk and mix it good with a wisk.

Take 1 piece of chicken thighs at a time and thoroughly coat each piece with the breading on both sides then set aside on a plate.

Preheat airfryer to 200°C.

Spray the ovenrack with oil and place the breaded chicken on the airfryer rack.

And for those, who like it super crisp, spray the chicken with some extra oil.

Actually air frying allows a guilt-free version of lovely fried food as it does not need to be air fried. But honestly – let´s not be that guilt-free today;)

Cook for about 18 minutes depending on the size of the chicken.

Halfway cooking, flip the chicken and spray the other side with oil.

Preparing the Sweet potato waffles

Soak the instant yeast in the milk and mix it with a fork or whisk.

Cut the sweet potato in cubes and steam until soft. Mash it until smooth and let it cool off. Mix it together with the milk and whisk it good.

Now add all the dry ingredients, add the eggs into the mixture, and again whisk.

At last you can add the melted butter. Leave the batter for about 20min outside the fridge.

Now you can bring the chicken and waffles together and serve with some maple syrup!

Bon appetite!
